igit sarangTheIndira Gandhi Institute of Technology (IGIT) is located at Sarang in the industrial belt of Talcher. It was established in 1982 by the government of Orissa. In addition to four year Undergraduate degrees in electrical, mechanical, chemical, civil engineering, and metallurgical & materials science,computer science,electronics and telecommunication, it offers three year Diploma in a few technical disciplines, and a postgraduate degree in computer applications. The college has 172 acres (0.70 sq.km) of land and it is situated nearby Brahmani River.It is considered among the best Engineering colleges in odisha and eastern India. It is immensely popular and highly sought after college in the state. The institute is accredited by NBA, and is affiliated to Biju Patnaik University of Technology(BPUT) and State Council for Technical Education & Vocational Training(SCTE & VT).
Administration Campus
The Institute is fully residential with an integrated campus covering 179 acres of land encompassing hostels, staff quarters and a sprawling playground (Dr. M. P. Mishra memorial stadium) with basketball, volleyball and badminton courts. In addition to this, with the Govt. approval, a proposal has been submitted to District authorities for further alienation of 200 acres of Govt. land in front of the Institute for its further expansion. The institute has central infrastructure facilities like Central Library (with 27,000 volumes of books and 50 current periodicals / journals subscribed every year), Central Computer Centre, Central Workshop,Knowledge Centre, 8 nos. of student hostels having accommodation facility for over 1500 students and other amenities such as SBI (Core Bank facilities), Guest house, Hospital, Post Office, Canteen, Students and Employees Co-operative Consumer stores, different clubs, Telephone Exchange, Mobile tower and Schooling up to High School level in its campus.

The Institute offers 4 year undergraduate B.Tech degree program in the following engineering disciplines of: *. Computer Science & Engineering *. Chemical Engineering *. Civil Engineering *. Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering It also offers 3 year postgraduate degree program in MCA, M.Tech and 3 years B.Tech degree for diploma holders under lateral entry scheme with the approval of AICTE New Delhi, recognised by Govt.of Orissaand affiliated under Biju Patnaik University of Technology, Rourkela. Puma Classification and Evolution: The Puma is a large, secretive Cat predominantly found in the mountains from southern Canada to thetip of South America. Also commonly knownas the Cougar and the Mountain Lion , Pumas are able to reach larger sizes than some'big' cat individuals butdespite their large sizethey are believed to bemore closely related tosmaller feline species. Horizon  is the annual techno-cultural festival of  Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology, Sarang . Horizon hosts a variety of events including competitions, exhibitions, lectures and workshops. Horizon aims to provide technically inclined Indian youth a national-level platform where their talent and expertise can be recognized and rewarded.
